Lanny by Max Porter

Recommended by Magdalene Shapter.

As a reader, you get to be in such close proximity to the characters, yet you still sense that they are ungraspable—you yearn to understand them and to experience their being as they do. Porter’s writing is disorienting, strange, and imaginative with its own idiosyncratic rhythm that collages the complexity of his character’s inner worlds in the ways we might experience our own.
